John Paul II: We Love You! by Father Peter Mitchell

Print PDF

Father Peter Mitchell shares how Jesus used John Paul II as a vital instrument both in his discernment to the priesthood and for a lot of youth as they encounter the Pope on many occasions.

Many of these youth shared the challenge they faced when John Paul II repeated numerous times before them "Be not afraid," and "Do not be afraid to become the Saints of the New Millennium." For the majority of the youth, their encounter with John Paul II was a conversion, an awakening call, even a better understanding of being a Catholic; others felt proud of belonging to the Catholic Church.

Living Like Francis Today by Marci Blum, OSF

Print PDF

Living Like Francis Today, by Marci Blum, is a wonderful little book designed to be used by small Christian communities. It distills the wisdom of St. Francis into six sessions: Live Simply, Live Humbly, Live Prayerfully, Live Lovingly, Care for Creation, and Live in Peace. While the book suggests the sessions last 1- 1 1/2 hours, the material is so rich that my SCC would take at least two meetings to cover each topic!

Every Day Hospitality - Simple Steps to Cultivating a Welcoming Heart by Thea Jarvis

Print PDF

What a neat little book! The title is deceptive. It provides more than the title suggests. It captivated me because it puts into a manageable perspective some really big thoughts. Theological treatises are written on who God is and how He is in the world. This book gives the answers, not by theologizing, but by sharing stories and reflections in real everyday language and from everyday experiences. The book does not talk to the head but to the heart. Stories and vignettes make the ideas in this book, some amazingly profound, immediate and real. It's a book for reading in the back yard while the sun is out, birds chirping and flowers blooming, or reading indoors in a favorite nook or chair with a steaming cup of coffee. It's a book than can be picked up and set down as the need arises. It's a book that can be read and reread and always continues to feed the soul. It is like a personal and heartfelt conversation.
